Detection of Perchlorate in Beans with pods (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Regulation updates

Commission Regulation (EU) 2023/915 (repealing Regulation (EU) No 1881/2006) and its amendments set maximum levels for certain contaminants, including perchlorate, in food.

It has been shown, however, that, although applying good practices, it is not possible to respect the maximum content in Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) with pods in the main production areas of the European Union.

Therefore, by Regulation (EU) 2024/1002 of 4 April 2024, the Commission amended Regulation (EU) 2023/915 as regards maximum levels of Perchlorate in Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) with pods by increasing and setting the new limit at 0,15mg/kg.

This Regulation shall enter into force on 24 April 2024.

Neotron performs the analysis of perchlorate by HPAEC-MS/MS technique, permitting to detect the residue with a limit of quantification of 0,002 mg/kg for most matrices and in compliance with the Regulation.
